Marie Takes up New Role as ENDO1000 U.K. Ambassador.
ENDO1000 is a UK-wide research project that will collect data from 1000 individuals with known or suspected endometriosis. The resulting resource will allow research into the development of personalised care for people with endometriosis – transforming the lives of millions. Although U.K wide, the pioneering research will be led from the University of Edinburgh.
Their mission is to reduce diagnostic delay and develop personalised treatment approaches for individuals with endometriosis by studying data and biological samples collected from patients over an extended period. Supported by their overall objective to accelerate discovery and advance data-driven research into endometriosis diagnosis and treatment.
Marie, (who is a historical endometriosis sufferer) has recently funded a strategic report to support the great work being delivered by Professor Andrew Horne and the ENDO1000 project team and to assist fellow women who have or have yet to be diagnosed with the Endometriosis. Some of the statistics around the condition are stark:
- Endometriosis can end women’s careers
- Women who had surgery for endometriosis were 85% more likely to be unemployed 3 years post-diagnosis
- 63% of full-time working women surveyed who had endometriosis surgery fell to 44%
- 89% of women with endometriosis surveyed noted a loss in productivity at work
- Up to one third of women with endometriosis suffer from infertility
Some asset designs from the proposed campaign
In April 2024, Marie was Keynote speaker at the ‘Woman in Scotland Lunch’ where she shared her story and how endometriosis impacted her journey both personally and professionally. The prestigious event raised thousands of pounds for endometriosis U.K. You can read Marie’s speech here.
Professor Andrew Horne FRSE, Director of Centre for Reproductive Health, University of Edinburgh who is leading ENDO1000 commented on Marie’s support…
“Marie Macklin’s unwavering dedication as an ambassador and supporter of women with endometriosis is a beacon of hope and empowerment. Her support extends beyond advocacy to actively fuelling our research efforts into understanding and combating endometriosis. I strongly believe that her commitment will move us closer to breakthroughs, offering hope for a future where those affected by this condition can live with dignity and without limitations.”

January 2026 | Project Update | Research Recruitment Launch
“As the founding Ambassador of #TALKEndo, ENDO1000, I’m incredibly proud to see the pioneering endometriosis research project at the University of Edinburgh reaching this important milestone. Endometriosis is a debilitating condition affecting one in ten women, and I’m excited that the team will soon be opening recruitment for this groundbreaking study.
Since launching the #TALKEndo, ENDO1000 campaign in October 2024, our goal has been to raise vital awareness and champion a £1 million fundraising initiative to support the research project. I want to thank everyone who has helped bring us to this point. While this is a hugely positive step forward, there is still much work to do – from continuing to raise awareness of the condition to working with local and national governments to drive meaningful change for woman in the U.K and across the world.
